Down, while quite warm, must be manufactured in unbreathable covers in order to keep the fine feathers in, which can cause elevated temperatures and lead to a restless night. Polyester and polyethylene foams can off-gas potentially hazardous chemicals, in addition to often being treated with flame retardant chemicals. This can lead to potential health complications.
